Patients with ALK-positive lung cancer have some special characteristics:
– about 50% of patients are diagnosed under the age of 50,
– ALK-positive lung cancer occurs in some patients in their teens and in young adults,
– an estimated 50% of patients are women. This compares to about 34% of women in other lung cancer patients,
– ALK+ is mostly diagnosed in non-smokers (former smokers who smoked for a short time and very little) and people who have never smoked.
